Here are some shots of Quebec City in the rain........
Although several of Quebec City's buildings stand taller, the Château Frontenac hotel is perched on top of a tall cape overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, thus giving a spectacular view for several kilometres. The building is the most prominent feature of the Quebec City skyline as seen from across the St. Lawrence, and is a symbol of the city and figures in most of my pictures.........
It was pretentious enough for us to stop for a coffee (D) and glass of wine (J). We had a great view from the terrasse bar but had our first example of poor surly service. I ordered a second cup of coffee which he forgot to bring so I forgot to leave a tip! Mind you at over $20 for the two drinks, I couldn't afford one!
Here are more Château Frontenac photos from various parts of the city...............
Here's how hard it was raining!
We took a guided tour round the Citadel. La Citadelle de Quebec is a star-shaped fortress built by the British between 1820 and 1831 and incorporated a section of the French "enceinte" of 1745. It's purpose was to secure the strategic heights of Cap Diamant against the Americans and to serve as a refuge for the British garrison in the event of attack or rebellion.
Then it was a stroll back to the Hotel de Ville area.
Not sure I'd like to live on the edge of the escarpment.
Then it was time to round off the afternoon with a well deserved glass of wine.
More rain and sightseeing tomorrow.
