Thursday 7th Oct – Cruise Day 6 – Halifax, Nova Scotia

Had a quick tour around Halifax before setting off for Peggy's Cove.  Bit tricky taking photos except for a brief coach stop (which is never brief as the average of the "coachers" is about 90 and it takes 5 minutes to get off the coach!
Eventually go to Peggy’s Cove which is 50 odd miles from Halifax, beautiful scenery along the way through many attractive villages.  Peggy’s Cove is a picturesque fishing village where they catch lobster and halibut.  It’s built on granite which is very different from the surrounding areas of forest.  It’s population roots are celtic (as is all of Nova Scotia - apparently 40% are celtic) and there was the ubiquitous piper and posers dressed in kilts.  Here they refer to them as “kilters”!  Bob would love it here – a bit of Scottishness.

We managed to climb the rocks to prove we were there!

It's so Celtic here, they even had a Pasty shop..............

Still it was a very picturesque harbour..............

From there we continued to Hubbard to the Shore Club for our lobster lunch.  Fifty of us got off the coach and sat down for a whole lobster each which were fresh that day.

We followed this with blueberry shortcake.  As we left the restaurant, we found out that our coach had a puncture that needed fixing before we could drive back to the ship.  A few moments of excitement as the tyre man jacked up the coach and changed the wheel.

Then a swift hour’s drive back to the ship along the motorway rather than the meander through the countryside.

Even more Celts when we got back to the ship............

Got back to our cabin to find the bed covered in black specks and started a long campaign to get the problem fixed and the bedding changed.  They eventually managed to get it sorted after 6 hours.  Had a quiet evening and yet again a superb meal – not had a bad one yet.  Jean beat me at scrabble by 5 points after being lucky with her last 3 letters.

United States tomorrow – we dock at Portland, Maine at about 9am and have the excitement of US Immigration to look forward to!  Taking an excursion to Kennebunkport which is a famous Maine seaside village/port made famous by the Bush family having a home here.
