Sunday 12th Sept - Around Toronto

Many thanks for your comments - please keep them coming.

Sunday today so our breakfast cafe didn't open till 9 so by that time, I was ready for my bacon, sausage, home fries and 3 poached eggs with toast, freshly squeezed orange and coffee.  Jean had a slice of toast!

Today was for looking round the various districts to get a feel for the place as it's our last day in Toronto.  We started in the historic distillery district which was a bit like the Albert Dock in Liverpool but without the water or people - maybe it was just a bit early on a Sunday.  From there we wanted to take a streetcar to Union Station but there was a combination of dug up roads and the Toronto Film Festival which meant we had to walk the mile or two.  Went past the St Lawrence Market again but it was shut.

Jean insisted that we took the Steam Whistle Brewery tour and the people running it were as nice as you would meet anywhere.  It was $10 each which included a glass of beer which was a bit wasted on Jean but she let me have hers.  As we had to wait 30 minutes for our tour, they topped our glasses up and because of a Blue Jays (baseball) game at the Rogers Stadium next door, Jean and I were the only 2 on our tour (2 more glasses of beer).  The tour was interesting and we got to pull the whistle which seemed to be a priviledge.  Then it was back to the start for more beer - a great $20.

Then it was off to Kensington Market for lunch.  We eventually managed to get a ride on a streetcar.

This is a very ethnically diverse area with all kinds of different restaurants but we plumped for Mexican in the end.  It was the lure of chicken tacos and margaritas that did it!

So it was on the the shopping experience of a lifetime at Honest Eds.

And finally, it was back home again via the subway.  Toronto must be the best city in the world for recycling.  Have a look at all these recycling bins on the subway station.......

Off to meet our cousins Jim & Bonnie tomorrow.  Taking the train from Toronto to Kingston Ontario.
