Thursday 23rd Sept - Montebello to Montreal - 1st day of autumn

Enjoyed the legendary Montebello buffet breakfast and took a final stroll around the grounds.  Had one of my better French monents when after speaking French to the waitress, she switched to English and I then carried on in French!  It's such a beautiful setting along the side of the Ottawa river.  All the outbuildings are log cabins made out of giant pencils (as you can see from the photos).

Then it was off to Montreal (about 105 km away).  Enough time to stop for a Tim Hortons and some TimBits (here they are Sam).  And a little know fact - Tim was an Ice Hockey defender who started up this empire in the early '70 but sadly died in a car crash before he could appreciate it.  Here's Tim.
and the TimBits...........

Got to Montreal about lunchtime.  Seems like a nice old vibrant city - feels European.  People are nice and the bars are friendly.  Had a good drive around, dropped the car off and then ambled about for a while, making our way back to Vieux-Montreal where we're staying at the Auberge Napolean.

Sightseeing tomorrow.
