Wednesday 15th Sept - Picton & The Wineries

Set off from Bath for Waupoos (which is Mohawk for running rabbit as I'm sure you all know) where there are about 30 odd wineries, cheeseries and cideries.  Took the ferry across the river and stopped at the lake on the mountain for a photo opportunity.

The colours are just starting to turn..........

We started at the Waupoos Estates Winery which has a good reputation and the wine was very good.  Tasted a few which were very enjoyable but had to move on as the restaurant was shut and it was lunch time.

We stopped at the County Cider Company & Estate Winery where they were cooking pizzas in a wood fired oven which smelt great as we drove up.  We had to undertake the mandatory cider tasting which included an Ice Cider which is made on similar lines to Ice Wine - i.e. they leave the cider apples to freeze on the trees before picking them in December.  It was superb.  Time for Pizza though......
It was one of these really friendly, informal places where they said we could pick and eat some grapes if we wished so I just couldn't resist it ..............

Then it was time to go and visit some first nations folk (Mohawks) and check out the mocasins and other interesting artifacts.  Needless to say we resisted the temptation to buy any of this stuff.  You stand out from the crowd in Wetherspoons in Mocasins and a bearskin coat.  We then went to a vegetable store on the Indian territory which had a great selection of gourds plus "peaches and cream" corn on the cob.

Then it was back home for our fresh corn and squash and Jim's meatballs.

Sam, I'll try and get some pictures of Tim-bits next time we're in Tim Hortons.  $1.80 for 10 - delicious - you'd love them!
